Among Serbia’s most influential public figures is Dejana Bačko (30) from Novi Sad—a determined young woman who has turned her disability into a source of strength and inspiration. With over 830,000 followers on Instagram (@devojka_sa_krilima), she shares powerful stories about overcoming obstacles, embracing life with joy, and advocating for a world of equal opportunity.
🎬 A Life That Reads Like a Movie Script
Dejana’s life began with immense challenges. Born without arms, she was given only 48 hours to live. Her mother, just 19 years old at the time, followed doctors’ advice and left her in care.
Five years later, Dejana’s mother saw her photo in a newspaper, discovered she was living in an orphanage—and fought to bring her daughter home. That’s when Dejana’s transformation truly began.
🎨 Education, Art, and Love
Despite many systemic and societal barriers, Dejana graduated from high school and enrolled in art school. In 2014, she was accepted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Novi Sad and later continued at the Academy of Classical Painting.
Her greatest supporter? Her husband, Marko Nežić, with whom she shares a beautiful family and a two-year-old daughter, Lara.
“Time flies. If we don’t see Lara for even a few days, we notice how much she’s grown,” Dejana shares. “She’s usually smiling, and we’re grateful that she’s been healthy and happy.”

As a mother, Dejana adapted quickly and now handles most daily tasks independently—though she remains grateful for the support of both her and Marko’s family.
“We try to keep living the life we love, and traveling together as a family is a big part of that,” she says. “The challenges I faced as a child seemed harder than they do now. With time, I learned how to manage them.”
🏆 Sports, Skydiving & Driving
Dejana is not only an artist but also a former Serbian vice-champion in para-taekwondo, with multiple international medals to her name.

“When someone doubts me, it only fuels my determination to prove them wrong,” she explains. “Gratitude and joy keep me moving forward—but there are always new goals and new adventures.”
📲 Growing a Global Community
Together with Marko, Dejana has grown her YouTube channel "Girl with Wings" to an audience of nearly 2.6 million subscribers. They’ve also launched the Do The Promijeni movement—an ambitious health and wellness network with a global mission.
“We’ve signed collaborations with several brands, and we’re incredibly grateful for the support,” Dejana says. “We dream of reaching 10 million people one day.”
